The President will sign an Executive Order tomorrow to temporarily halt the issuance of new permanent resident visas. At the White House briefing this evening, the President stated this temporary pause would initially last 60 days, although it could be extended, and would not affect temporary/non-immigrant visas at this time.
While we do not expect the order will affect our ability to file new petitions/applications with USCIS, approvals of some cases may be delayed, particularly adjustment of status applications. As always, in cases where individuals on non-immigrant visas inside the U.S. are filing for an extension of stay or change of status, applications must be timely filed to avoid the accrual of any unlawful presence. Individuals outside the U.S. must continue to wait for U.S. Embassies to re-open before visa interviews are available. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions.
